What SottoType records

SottoType records microphone audio only when you press a configured SottoKey shortcut. Audio is used to produce paste-ready text for the active input field, then discarded. We do not record audio at any other time, do not record screen content, and do not capture keystrokes outside the dictation flow.

Local data

By default, your dictation history, glossary entries, profile data, and app settings live on your Mac in standard macOS locations. Each one is removable from inside the app — Settings → History (clear), Glossary (delete entries), Profile (reset). Uninstalling SottoType and deleting its application-support folder removes the rest.

Cloud transcription (BYO key, opt-in)

If you enable cloud transcription with your own OpenAI API key, the audio (or text) needed for the request is sent directly from your Mac to OpenAI. SottoType's servers do not see this content. Your relationship with OpenAI — and OpenAI's data handling — is governed by OpenAI's own policies. SottoType does not sell your data and does not use your content to train any model.

SottoType servers (license, version, feedback)

Our website (sottotype.com) and API are hosted on Railway. Persistent records — license status, the email tied to your purchase, license activation metadata, and feedback you submit through the menu bar — are stored in Supabase, in the Singapore region (ap-southeast-1). Version-check requests and HTTP access logs may be retained briefly (up to 30 days) for operational debugging. Dictation content is never uploaded for licensing or update checks.

Crash reports and diagnostics (opt-in)

If you opt in during first launch, SottoType sends crash reports and unhandled errors to Sentry. Reports include stack traces, OS version, and app version. Personally identifying paths (e.g. /Users/<your-name>) and any string that looks like an API key are scrubbed before transmission. You can change this choice anytime in Settings. Dictation content and audio are never included in crash reports.

Cookies and analytics

The website does not use cookies, third-party analytics, or browser fingerprinting. The macOS app does not contain any analytics SDK. Outside dictation, the app's only outbound network calls are: license validation, version check, your opt-in crash reports, and (if you enabled it) the BYO cloud transcription request.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any record we hold tied to your email — license, feedback, crash reports. Email support@sottotype.com and we will respond within 30 days. Deleting your license also revokes activation; we recommend doing this only if you no longer use the app.

Children

SottoType is not intended for users under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn we have, we delete it.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be announced in the changelog and (if you have a Pro license) by email at the address tied to your purchase. The current version is always at sottotype.com/privacy with its effective date at the top.
